A personalized hardcover recipe book made with CookNest Books

1. Gather your recipes

Start with the dishes people ask for: the ones that come back every holiday and the ones only one person knows how to make. Look in the usual places: index cards in a drawer, a notebook with stained pages, screenshots, bookmarks and messages from family.

A printed book needs at least 30 pages, and blank pages count too, so a handful of recipes is enough to start.

2. Digitize the handwritten notebook

Take a photo of each card or notebook page, several photos if a recipe runs over. We read the handwriting and copy exactly what's written into a clean recipe, with the ingredients and steps in order. Check it and correct anything before you save it.

3. Dictate the recipes nobody wrote down

Some recipes only live in someone's head. Ask them to tell it out loud, the way they would in the kitchen, and we write it up with ingredients and steps. You can also type a recipe in a simple form, or add the ones you saved in the CookNest app.

4. Sort them into sections

Group the recipes into up to seven named sections, like Starters, Mains and Desserts, or one for each grandparent. Put the cook's name under each recipe and add lined blank pages at the back for the recipes still to come.

5. Pick one of the six designs

Each design sets the cover, the type and every recipe page. Then choose a title and your cover photos and write a dedication.

  • Recipe book with the Herència design: the cover “Recipes from home” with a framed photo of a shared table and an elegant serif title
Herència: a family keepsake, to hand down.
  • Recipe book with the Revista design: the cover “Recipes from home” with a full-width table photo over a red band
Revista: bold type and color, like a food magazine.
  • Recipe book with the Essencial design: the cover “Recipes from home” with a table photo above a large black title on white
Essencial: clean and calm, for cooks who read.
  • Recipe book with the Pati design: the cover “Recipes from home” with a colorful title, a taped-on photo and playful shapes
Pati: bright and playful, for cooking with kids.
  • Recipe book with the Mercat design: the cover “Recipes from home” with blue Mediterranean tiles around an arched photo
Mercat: Mediterranean tiles and warm colors.
  • Recipe book with the CookNest design: the cover “Recipes from home” in orange and white with two round photos
CookNest: the CookNest look, bright and homely.
